3. Who can use StoryHug
3.1 Parents and guardians
To create a StoryHug account, you must be at least 18 years old, able to enter into a binding contract under Indian law, and the parent or lawful guardian of the child whose profile you create.
3.2 Children
StoryHug content is made for children aged 3 to 8. Children do not create accounts, sign in, or agree to these Terms. They use StoryHug only through a parent's account.
You are responsible for your child's use of StoryHug, and anything done through your account is treated as done by you. We encourage you to listen together or stay close by, and to keep the device volume at a comfortable level for young ears.
3.3 Where StoryHug is available
StoryHug is currently offered in India only. We do not promise that it is available or suitable anywhere else.
4. Your account
4.1 Signing in
You can create a StoryHug account in one of three ways: Continue with Google, Continue with Apple (on iPhone), or Create account with your email address and a password. If you use your email address, we send a six-digit code to that address to confirm it is yours.
If you created your account with your email address, you sign in with that email address and your password. If you signed up with Google or Apple, you sign in with the same option.
Please keep your password secret and choose one you do not use anywhere else. If you forget it, we will email you a link or a code to reset it. If you use Google or Apple, please keep that account secure too, because anyone who can open it may be able to open StoryHug.
If you think someone has used your StoryHug account without your permission, please write to us straight away at hello@storyhug.ai.
4.2 Your information
Please give us accurate information, such as your child's age band and preferred story language, so that we can show suitable stories. For your child's name, you may use a nickname; it does not have to be their real name.
We do not ask for a profile photo. Your profile simply shows the first letter of your name or email address.
4.3 One child profile
At present, each account can hold one child profile. We may allow more in future.
4.4 Your account is personal
Your account is for your own family. Please do not sell, share or transfer it to anyone else.
5. What StoryHug offers
StoryHug is an audio storytelling app for families. Depending on the version you use, it includes:
- A library of short bedtime audio stories with illustrations, written for the 3–4, 5–6 and 7–8 age bands, in the languages shown in the app
- A night-time emotional check-in, which suggests stories that suit the feeling your child chooses
- Conversation questions to talk about after a story
- Optional morning and bedtime notifications, including Brain Bites
- Favourites, and a dashboard of your family's listening activity
- The Parent Reflection Test, a short questionnaire for parents
StoryHug will change over time. We may add, change or remove features and stories. A particular story may not always stay in the library. If we add a new feature, it may come with extra terms or ask for your separate consent first.
StoryHug needs an internet connection. Any mobile data charges from your network provider are your responsibility.
6. Free trial and subscriptions
6.1 Free trial
When you create an account, you can listen to any 30 stories from our library for free. The free trial does not cost anything.
The free trial is offered once per family. We may refuse or end a free trial if we reasonably believe it is being misused, for example by creating several accounts to get more free stories.
6.2 Paid subscriptions
Paid subscriptions are not available yet. We plan to offer a paid subscription that unlocks more stories from our library, beyond the 30 free stories. Its plans and pricing are yet to be decided.
Before any paid plan is offered, we will update these Terms. The full details of a plan, including its price, billing period, renewal and how to cancel, will be shown in the app before you buy. You will not be charged anything unless you choose a plan and confirm the purchase yourself.
Some future features may be offered only as part of a paid subscription. For example, we may later add stories whose narration says your child's name. That feature is not available today.
6.3 Payments through Apple and Google
When paid plans are available, all purchases will be made through the Apple App Store or Google Play, under their terms and payment policies. We never receive, see or store your card number, UPI ID or bank details.
Renewals, cancellations and refunds for those purchases are managed through your Apple or Google account settings and follow Apple's or Google's refund policies. Because we do not handle the payment, we cannot issue refunds for those purchases directly, but we are happy to help you find the right place to ask.
Any applicable taxes, such as GST, will be applied as shown at the time of purchase.
7. Our stories and content
7.1 How our stories are made
Many of our stories are retellings of traditional tales, such as those from the Panchatantra and Jataka collections. Our stories, illustrations and narration are created by our team with the help of AI tools, including AI-generated voices, and every story is reviewed by our team before it is published. Stories are prepared in advance; nothing is generated live while your child is listening.
7.2 Suitability
We take care that every story suits its age band. Every child is different, though, and you know yours best. You decide what is right for your child. If a story worries you, please tell us at hello@storyhug.ai and we will look at it.
7.3 Not professional advice
StoryHug is a storytelling and family-conversation product. The emotional check-in, story suggestions, conversation questions, Brain Bites, dashboard and Parent Reflection Test are for general reflection and conversation only.
They are not medical, psychological, therapeutic or educational advice, assessment, diagnosis or treatment, and they do not measure or predict your child's development. If you have a concern about your child's health, wellbeing or development, please speak to a qualified professional.
8. Your licence to use StoryHug
We give you a limited, personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable and revocable licence to use StoryHug and its content for your family's private, non-commercial use, on devices you own or control, in line with these Terms and the rules of the app store you downloaded it from.
You agree not to:
- copy, record, extract, share, sell, broadcast or publicly play StoryHug stories, illustrations or audio, except through features we provide in the app
- use StoryHug content in a school, classroom, business or other organisation without our written permission
- take apart, decompile or reverse engineer the app, except where the law allows this
- get around our security, access controls or free-trial limits, including by creating several accounts
- use bots, scrapers or other automated tools to access StoryHug
- use StoryHug content to train, test or improve any AI or machine-learning model
- interfere with or disrupt StoryHug, or use it for anything unlawful, harmful or misleading
Schools and organisations: if you would like to use StoryHug with a group of children, please write to us. Separate terms apply.
9. Who owns what
StoryHug belongs to us. The app, the website, our story retellings, illustrations, narration, music and sound effects, the StoryHug name, the book mascot, our logo and our designs are owned by Mind Civics Private Limited or our licensors, and are protected by law. Traditional tales may themselves be free for anyone to use, but our versions of them, including our words, pictures and recordings, are not.
You may not use the StoryHug name, mascot or logo without our written permission.
If you send us ideas or suggestions, we may use them to improve StoryHug without owing you anything for them.
10. Your information and messages
StoryHug does not let children post content, share anything publicly, or talk to other users.
The information you give us, such as your child's profile, check-ins, Reflection Test answers and messages to us, stays yours. You allow us to use it only to provide StoryHug, as described in our Privacy Policy.
11. Privacy
We take your family's privacy seriously. We show no ads, we use no advertising or tracking tools, and we never sell your data or your child's. By creating a child profile, you confirm that you are the child's parent or lawful guardian, that you are 18 or over, and that you agree to our Privacy Policy. You also give your consent, as parent or lawful guardian, for us to process your child's information as described in that policy.
12. Notifications and emails
Morning and bedtime notifications are optional. You can switch them off at any time in the app or in your phone's settings.
We may also email you about important matters, such as your account, your purchases or changes to these Terms or our Privacy Policy. These service emails are part of running StoryHug.
13. Deleting your account and ending these Terms
13.1 By you
You can stop using StoryHug at any time. You can delete your account from within the app, in Settings. If you can no longer use the app, you can ask us to delete your account by writing to hello@storyhug.ai from your account's email address. These steps are also explained at storyhug.ai/delete-account. Deleting your account also removes your child's profile and related information, as explained in our Privacy Policy.
Please note: deleting the app or your account does not cancel a subscription bought through Apple or Google. You need to cancel it in your Apple or Google account settings.
13.2 By us
We may suspend or close your account if you seriously or repeatedly break these Terms, if the law requires it, or if we stop offering StoryHug. Where it is reasonable to do so, we will tell you first and explain why.
If we decide to stop offering StoryHug altogether, we will let you know in advance where we reasonably can.
13.3 What continues
Sections 7.3, 9, 15, 16, 17, 21 and 23 continue to apply after these Terms end.
14. Keeping StoryHug running
We work to keep StoryHug available and working well, but it may sometimes be unavailable because of maintenance, updates, or events outside our control. Please keep the app updated; older versions may stop working.
15. Disclaimer
We provide StoryHug "as is" and "as available". To the extent the law allows, we do not promise that it will always be available, error-free or suitable for every purpose.
Nothing in these Terms takes away any rights you have under the Consumer Protection Act, 2019, or any other law that cannot be excluded by agreement.
16. Limits on our liability
To the extent the law allows:
- we are not liable for any indirect, incidental, special or consequential loss, or for loss of data, profits or goodwill, arising from your use of StoryHug; and
- our total liability to you for any claim relating to StoryHug is limited to the amount you paid for StoryHug in the 12 months before the event that led to the claim.
Nothing in these Terms limits our liability for fraud, for death or personal injury caused by our negligence, or for anything else that cannot be limited under Indian law.
17. Your responsibility to us
If we suffer loss because you broke these Terms or misused StoryHug, you agree to make good that loss, to the extent the law allows.
18. Apple and Google
18.1 If you downloaded StoryHug from the Apple App Store
The following also applies to you:
- These Terms are between you and Mind Civics Private Limited only, not Apple Inc. ("Apple"). We, not Apple, are solely responsible for the StoryHug app and its content.
- Your licence is limited to using the app on Apple-branded devices that you own or control, as permitted by the Usage Rules in the Apple Media Services Terms and Conditions, except that the app may be accessed by other accounts associated with you through Family Sharing, where available.
- Apple has no obligation to provide any maintenance or support for the app.
- If the app fails to meet any applicable warranty, you may notify Apple, and Apple will refund the purchase price, if any, for the app. To the fullest extent the law allows, Apple has no other warranty obligation for the app. Any other claims, losses, liabilities, damages, costs or expenses arising from a failure to meet a warranty are our responsibility.
- We, not Apple, are responsible for dealing with any claims from you or anyone else relating to the app or your use of it, including product liability claims, claims that the app does not meet a legal or regulatory requirement, and claims under consumer protection, privacy or similar laws.
- If anyone claims that the app or your use of it infringes their intellectual property rights, we, not Apple, are responsible for investigating, defending, settling and resolving that claim.
- You confirm that you are not located in a country that is subject to a United States Government embargo, or that has been designated by the United States Government as a "terrorist supporting" country, and that you are not listed on any United States Government list of prohibited or restricted parties.
- You must follow any third-party terms that apply when you use the app, such as your mobile network's terms.
- Questions, complaints or claims about the app should be sent to us, using the contact details in section 22.
- Apple and its subsidiaries are third-party beneficiaries of these Terms. Once you accept these Terms, Apple has the right to enforce them against you as a third-party beneficiary.
18.2 If you downloaded StoryHug from Google Play
The Google Play Terms of Service also apply to your use of Google Play. Google is not responsible for the StoryHug app or its content.
19. Other companies' services
StoryHug relies on services run by other companies, such as Google and Apple sign-in and the app stores. Your use of those services is governed by their own terms and privacy policies, and we are not responsible for them.
20. Changes to these Terms
We may update these Terms from time to time, for example when we introduce paid plans or new features, or when the law changes. If a change materially affects you, we will tell you by email or in the app before it takes effect. The "Last updated" date at the top always shows the current version.
If you keep using StoryHug after a change takes effect, you accept the updated Terms. If you do not agree with a change, you can delete your account at any time.
21. Governing law and disputes
These Terms are governed by the laws of India.
If you have a problem with StoryHug, please write to us first. Most concerns can be sorted out quickly, and we would like the chance to put things right.
Subject to that, the courts at Hyderabad, Telangana will have exclusive jurisdiction over any dispute arising from these Terms or StoryHug. This does not affect your right to approach a Consumer Commission under the Consumer Protection Act, 2019.
